In 1980 Somerset County had a per capita income of $6,859 which ranked fifteenth in the State and was 81.6% of the State per capita income of $8,408. In 2004 Somerset County had a per capita income of $23,921 which ranked sixteenth in the State and was 79.6% of the State per capita income of $30,046.

Somerset County's per capita income is increasing;  the rate of increase is greater than that of Maine's, New England's or the United States. This fact is evident from the chart to the left. The gap between Somerset County's per capita income and Maine's, New England's and the United States has been decreasing during the last four years.
