Somerset County Vocational Education Somerset County offers vocational education at the high school level at Somerset Career and Technical Center in Skowhegan and at the college level at Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) located in Fairfield. Somerset Career and Technical Center provides occupational skill preparation for students of the school districts within Somerset County. In conjunction with specific occupational hands on skills, instruction is provided in critical thinking, research, decision making, problem solving and team work. Workplace safety is taught and practiced in all aspects of instruction. Students apply their skills in a wide variety of real work projects on location at the center and in the community. Kennebec Valley Community College, as part of the Community College System, is a community partner and as such takes part in economic development efforts, partners with local schools and businesses, develops programs to support business growth and brings lifelong learning to area residents. KVCC offers quality, real world education in a variety of one and two year degree, diploma and certificate programs. In addition to offering degree and certificate programs KVCC coordinates the Maine Quality Center Program for Somerset County. Maine Quality Center Programs offer customized education and training for new or expanding businesses, at no cost to the business or the trainees. By matching Maine people with Maine jobs, the Quality Center Program provides a valuable service to employees and to Maine people. The Maine Quality Center Program offers trainees free specialized training which may lead to quality, full time jobs with Maine companies.
